Family Support During Doctor Visits It's really important that cancer patients always have at least one other person with him, particularly close relatives. The process, the decision making process, the fear that goes on with cancer is overwhelming. I have a strong history of cancer in my family and I know I was told that I have cancer would be even overwhelming for me. So, we need other ears, we need other eyes, we need other people thinking and writing down and asking questions. So therefore I think it's really very important that patients always be accompanied by family members. This is after all the most vulnerable time that any patient can go through when they’ve been told they have cancer, they need all the love and support they can get, no better time than to have family members and close friends be with them during visits to see us.
