Kimberly: Welcome to the Pilates on Fifth ultimatepilatesworkouts.com video podcast. I am Kimberly. Katherine: And I am Kathrine. Kimberly: Today's exercise is Scissors with Oblique. So this is a variation on the original Pilates exercise Scissors. We are just going to add a little rotation of the torso to get into obliques a bit more. So we will start lying supine and from the neutral position use the abdominal muscles to roll the hips up to meet the rib, so you have a nice supported position at the pelvis. Inhale one leg comes up into the table top position, exhale bring the other leg up and we will take both hands behind the head here. Now it's important to note that when your hands are behind your head, think of your hands more at the nape of your neck creating traction as oppose to on your head where you can overdo with it your pulling of the hands and keep the elbows wide. So we are going to inhale tilt the chin slightly, on the exhale straighten both legs to the ceiling and lift the head and shoulders up, so we are here. Now she will bring here left leg towards her first and think of bringing her right armpit to the left knee and here we go. Exhale, exhale and switch and exhale, exhale, inhale, exhale. So it's a little bit of an inhale in the middle and then an exhale. So notice that she is reaching this leg long using the hip extensor that she kicks me and the hip flexors here and always thinking of this armpit to knee and then this armpit to knee and we will just do one more. Exhale, exhale, inhale, come up both legs meet at center, exhale, roll the head and shoulders down, bend the knees and then one foot comes down and the other foot comes down.
