Enjoying Food After Bariatric Surgery - Andrea's Story I think there are few reasons why I enjoy food more than I did before. One reason is, I think I am really enjoying the taste. I didn’t eat fried food every day before, but when you have fried food, you’re not tasting the flavor anymore. And so now, I am eating more natural foods, more seasonings are bringing out the flavors and I am enjoying the taste. I am not feeling a fried taste or something artificial. So I think I am really enjoying the actual flavor of foods more. For example, I have always kind of liked spinach, but I love like spinach in salads in dishes and just the blend of flavoring I’m enjoying a lot more than I used to. The other reason is I just think it makes me feel good because I know the results. It is part of what I learned in support groups about envisioning who I want to be and what I want to be and eating those foods helps me become that. Those are couple of reasons why I don’t feel deprived. A third reason is probably because it’s an engrained habit now. It’s what I do every day all day and that’s one thing that initially I think I was afraid of. “Can I really bring myself to exercise this off and then can I limit those foods?” And another phrase that we learned in support group was, ‘not on a diet’. I am on a permanent life change. I have made a change. This is what I am choosing. I am choosing to eat these foods; it’s not that I can’t have the other ones, I am choosing to eat them, and I think all of those reasons together are why I don’t feel deprived.
