Dr Szmuc Shares a Pregnant Patient Success Story I had a patient a few years back, four or five years ago, which happened to be a friend of my daughter’s who was pregnant; first time, first baby, going perfectly fine. She came into the office and said at about 26 weeks along, “I just don’t feel the baby moving the way it has been.” And that’s a very common complaint at that point and usually it doesn’t pan out to be a problem. I had my ultrasound tech look at the baby right at that time and she said, “This baby is having a problem. We need to move quickly.” So we got her here at the hospital within a couple of minutes in the labor and delivery unit, did a quick repeat ultrasound here, showed that the baby, yes, is in danger, severe danger because the blood supply had been shutting down. So we did an emergency C-section within the next two minutes and this baby survived and is doing very well in the world and was born just over a pound. Well that makes me feel great that, you know, we do have a role here and we can save people and make a difference.
