Currently, we are doing a study looking at the effect of moderate alcohol consumption in patients with inactive inflammatory bowel disease. We are taking a group of patients and having them drink red wine, which is, moderate amount of alcohol, which is usually two glasses a day, and seeing how it affects their disease course. Thus far, the results have been very interesting, and it appears that patients with inflammatory bowel disease may drink alcohol, it’s safe for them, and in some cases may even improve their disease.
