Dr. Stanczyk's Bariatric Patient Success Story It’s a young gentleman who was almost 600 pounds, who was trying to get surgery for three years and was denied. Unfortunately, he went from the weight of less than 500 to more than 600 pounds waiting for the surgery, and we finally were able to perform that surgery on him. We did panniculectomy and gastric bypass at the same time. We took out, at the time of surgery, more than 40 pounds of his pannus and three months after his surgery he is 150 pounds lighter except of his 40 pounds of his pannus. He is ambulating. He feels great and right now he is starting to date and have his own life. I have many stories. I have a story of a wonderful lady who was 68 years old and had most of the comorbidities that morbidly obese patient have, was wheelchair bound, unfortunately, with bad lymphedema of her lower extremities, raging diabetes mellitus, which was barely controlled, and hypertension, which unfortunately was trying to get the surgery for many years and was not able because of different problems, insurance, and couldn’t find the right place to do it. We operated on her. After a month she lost almost 100 pounds. She, right now, four months after surgery, is off her wheelchair. She is walking. She is very happy. She is very active and starting her life again.
