Dr. Schwartz' LASIK Eye Surgery Experience I’ll tell you about a really nice lady who came in to see me at the office. She is a mother of three and she is extremely nearsighted. And her biggest fear is she can’t find her kids without her glasses, and when she gets up and she has little ones running around the house she will say, “Look, if I can’t get to my glasses...” or even worse, if one of the kids have come in and moved them, she’s toast. She can’t find them. She can’t find the glasses, she can hear the kids but she can’t see them. So, her biggest thing was, “You know look, this is safety.” I am in Arizona. Everybody in Arizona has a swimming pool almost. She has got a swimming pool. They have the fence up but she just don’t know and so, she wanted to make sure that from a safety standpoint at all times day or night she could see her kids. And she was extremely nearsighted. She was one of those patients that was not borderline, but really in one of those higher categories. She was a little bit surprised to find out that she was actually a candidate for LASIK. When she actually had the procedure done she could see the difference when she sat up from the table. I mean, LASIK is something where, you know, the next day you typically see very well, but in really nearsighted patients, they can experience some of that immediately and you could see it in the expression in her face when she sat up on the table that we had already achieved her goal. She could see across the room, she could see the clock on the wall and this was off the table immediately and she just started to cry. She was just so excited that she already was where she wanted to be. She said, when I examined her afterwards, “If it doesn’t get any better than this I am thrilled,” and I knew it was going to get a lot better than that. The next day she was 20/20. Her vision was perfect. She is thrilled. She can see her kids. She has no issues at all and you know, that’s a really heart-warming type of a thing to be a part of because you do this to help people, but you also like to see the impact it’s going to have and when you can hear her story and how much it has really helped her, it really is nice.
