Female Speaker: I always had really painful periods and so as my mom and she has had fibroid tumors, so I am wondering if that is hereditary and that is something that I am going to worry about later. Dr. Lisa Masterson: Okay, and you have something to share with Kaylee. I mean painful periods can just -- I mean a lot of men will just think oh painful periods you take a Motrin or whatever but they can be debilitating. They can keep you from doing anything for changing your lifestyle, how you interact with people, and really affect your quality of life, so it is something that's very real. Now, there is a lot of different things that you can do for painful periods from anti-inflammatories which Kaylee tried to birth control pills, to other stronger hormones like Depo-Provera which just take away your period. Okay that's one way to take away the pain with periods, just take away your way period and other medications like that Lupron and things like that they can also do it. But sometimes you have to find out like in Kaylee's instance, what is going on because there could be abscesses or could be adhesions or could be something called endometriosis and what you talked about fibroids. So, that's where an ultrasound comes in and Kaylee had ultrasounds before. So, I would get an ultrasound as far as hereditary fibroids are really common in general, all right. It is whether or not they are large, cause heavy bleeding or cause so much pain that you can't work or things like that or they cause other kinds of problems like obstruction. So, that will be when you want something done. They can be hereditary but mostly they are just common. Okay, so you can get an ultrasound if you haven't tried any of the other medications and exercise can help with that and you can get anti-inflammatories. Does that answer your questions. Female Speaker: Thank you.
