My favorite patient story is a woman that had curvature of the spine due to arthritis, technically we call it degenerative scoliosis, who had been seen and attempted to be treated by a number of physicians. And in examining her, I knew that we had techniques that could help her without the traditionally much larger or much more dangerous operations. She went through the surgery and was able to get up and walk and actually started to walk her dog again and really started to enjoy her life again. The reason that I went into medicine and into spine surgery in general is to try help patients with bad pain problems. So for all the work we do, the most gratifying thing in the world is to have someone come in and just say thank you and let you know that the pain is better and that they’re able to go on with their life and be able to do the things that they want to do.
