After a gastric bypass procedure, is it common for my stomach to stretch? Yes, after gastric bypass you’ve got to remember that when we make that gastric bypass pouch it’s only 15 cc. So, that means it’s about the size of a golf ball, okay? So, if you were always only going to be able to eat what you could put in a golf ball, you obviously would not be able to maintain a healthy weight; you’d lose too much weight. So what happens is, while your pouch is small like a golf ball, you are using up your stores of energy, all those fat stores that you have, but as you go through the process of kind of accommodation to the bypass, you’ll stretch that pouch out probably to about the size of your palm. So you’ll be able to eat three small meals a day and you’ll be able to do very well with that and maintain a healthy weight all your life.
