Does sunscreen decrease a woman’s ability to absorb vitamin D? Dr. Cedric Garland: Well, it eliminates your ability to make it. Vitamin D is made from cholesterol in the skin, and if sunscreen is in the mix, a person can’t make any vitamin D, and so it prevents the synthesis of vitamin D.
