Hi! I'm Kim Taylor-DiLeva and this is your answer for the day. One of the things that people ask me all the time is, Kim, how is a world is sign language going to help me to improve my child's behavior or to as a teacher, to improve classroom management? That just doesn't make sense. So people ask me a lot of time when I say classroom management, I can help you with that, I can help improve that or your child's behavior at home I can help you with that, I can help improve that and people just look at me like, what? How can signing help with that? So I want to just tell you really quickly say that it can help you in that. Why can I help you with that because these are the different kinds of behaviors we often have to try to correct. Right? We have to redirects them and get them focused back into what we were either talking about or what activity we were just doing. So we either need to redirects them back into what we were doing in the first place. We are always trying to engage them and get them interested in what we want them to do. So engaging them and getting them interested in what we want them to do. We are also trying to keep things more positive. When we are correcting behaviors, we're always like don't do this, don't do that, and don't do this, no, no, no. But we can also through sign language remind ourselves to use more positive reinforcement and make your home and your classroom a more positive place by using positive signs more often. So there are lot of different ways that sign language can help with all of that, because there are redirecting signs like stop and pay attention. There are sign so I can help, make them more positive place, that's from all the way across through, you can just give a quick great or friendly. It was like how you are doing something nice over there without having to shout across the room or make a big production, animate, you can just quietly and quickly recognize child's positive behavior. Sign language is just really engaging because it gets all the kids involved and they all have to sign along with you, when you are reading a story or if you are asking questions to the class or to your child have been sign the answers back to you and you can quick scan your classroom and see everybody who is actively engaged in what you are teaching and what you are doing. Or as a parent actively engaged in the activity that you want them to be doing with you like reading a story. So signing has a great potential to help children with behavior at home and also to help with classroom management. So I hope you'll start using some of those ideas right away, because once you do, you'll start to see that. This actually can really help with this. So and I know as a classroom teacher I was always looking for ways to help improve classroom management. So I would have loved these ideas. So anyway signing can really help with behavior in classroom management. There is your answer of the day.
