Does Hormone Replacement Therapy Cause Cancer Hormone replacement therapy an issue of breast cancer. There is certainly data, well established data in the literature, that there is an increased risk of breast cancer with the prolong use of hormone replacement therapy particularly the therapy that combines both progesterone and estrogen. And woman who choose to use hormone replacement therapy, obviously need to know about the small increased risk. The risk appears to become the greatest after ten years of consecutive years, but that’s certainly is no guarantee. It appears that the risk is less if you’re on a pure estrogen replacement. This is an area of litigation right now, this is an area of concern and a patient simply need to know that in deed there is an increased risk.
