Question: If a woman has an eating disorder should she tell all of her doctors when she goes to visit them? Vicki Berkus: I think the key word is doctor. You know, if she is seeing a doctor, because of medical issues, they need to know about her eating disorder. If she is going in whether it's to a dentist or it's to an eye doctor whether it's to a primary care doctor whether it's to an OB GYM, they need to know if she is struggling in providing nourishment for her body. Because, the consequences of these eating disorders affect all organ systems. And so, again the heart is slain, because of the amount of shame and guilt and sadness involved in these disorders is to be honest with her physician.
