Sue Brenan: They are both going to have activity and it's very important for people to realize because sometimes they think that things that come from natural sources or are available over the counter without prescription, they can just take as much as they want and that they don't have to worry about drug interactions or even interactions of the herbals themselves with each other. Herbals can be very helpful health aids and of course medicines can be lifesavers. But they don't always work together to have a positive effect. Sometimes you can get an additive effect and too much effect, sometimes you can get the other negative effect meaning they would cancel each other out. Maybe more side effects from one may occur. So my bottom line advice is don't use herbal or dietary supplements with you medicines unless you check with your pharmacist or your physician. We want you to be able to use both safely.
