Question: Does Prozac or other drugs help an eating disorder? Dr. Vicki Berkus: The studies have shown that for people who have severe anorexia. No, because they don't have enough nutrients coming into their brain to have the neurochemistry that these medications work on. We know that Prozac works on serotonin. These patients have low serotonin levels. The other thing that we need to let people know is that the eating disorders falls under abusive composite umbrella. Meaning that sure, there may be point for compulsive overeating and bulimia or medications are needed, because there is also coexisting depression or coexisting anxiety disorder or something else that does require medications on board to help them --
