Host: Do young children resist such teaching, preferring to just play? Peggy Halliday: Actually children on the Autism Spectrum tend to really like structure because they don t know how to play on their own. That s not a skill set that they have, they really enjoy the structure that tells them what they should do when and so, contrary to what a lot of people think, if you give them time which would be a free play time, then you think children would enjoy that, something that can produce a lot of anxiety in children with autism, that they really do like the structure that they are given in Intensive Behavioral Program.
