Question: Can alternative therapies such as diet modifications be used instead of insulin? Dr. Jordan Lipton: Well, for Type 1 diabetes that's not an option. Type 1 diabetes don't produce any insulin and therefore they need exogenous supplies of insulin either through a pump or through multiple injections. There was an inhaled insulin that was available for complicated usually for complicated Type 2 diabetes because it was a short acting insulin but even that came off the market because it wasn't a great solution. For Type 2 diabetes there are you know obviously diet and exercise are the best chance of people have a cure and these other things like cinnamon and other naturopathic things can work to a certain extent but you cant get away from having a few other things that are necessary, losing weight.
