Diagnosis of Autism in Young Children The symptoms of autism are interestingly pretty similar in men and women, boys and girls, although there are some suggestion of differences in severity of presentation, which probably relates to some of the genetic issues in autism, but there are always problems in social interaction. Those problems, the autism part of autism, is sort of the hallmark of the condition. Usually, there are some very significant problems in communication. These can take the form of real literal problems in terms of talking, but they can also be more general problems in communication, and then this group of sort of odd behaviors: troubles with change, rigidity, some of the unusual mannerisms and motor movements.
