Dr. Pamela Mazza: There are really two major types of diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2. In Type 1, the body stops making insulin so people have to have insulin to live. Type 2 is more common and usually occurs in adults but not always and it has really three defects. You have insulin resistance, they have a relative insulin deficiency and then the body just produces more sugar than it really needs.
