Kathy Reily: Hello! I am Kathy Reily, Coordinator of the Diabetes Program at Prince William Hospital in Manassas, Virginia, and now we're going to talk about medications in diabetes. Male Speaker: Why do some people with diabetes need medication? Kathy Reily: People with Type 1 diabetes will need insulin because their pancreas is no longer producing any insulin at all. People with Type 2 diabetes, many people will need some form of medication, whether it's pills or insulin and that is because their pancreas is producing less insulin than they require to help process their carbohydrate or their glucose.
