Kathy Reily: Hello! I am Kathy Reily, Coordinator of the Diabetes Program at Prince William Hospital in Manassas, Virginia. Now, I would like to talk to you a little bit about nutrition and meal planning for diabetes. Male Speaker: What are some of the basics of meal planning? Kathy Reily: Some of the basics of meal planning revolve around carbohydrates. Nutrition and meal planning, I really think is the cornerstone of managing diabetes, because all of us are eating everyday and we're usually eating several times a day. So food has one of the biggest effects on the blood sugar. Some of the basics revolve around carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are going to be converted or turned into sugar after we eat them and again, will have the biggest effect on our blood sugar.
