Male: With this economy, the last thing I need is for cupid to be shooting his little arrow thing into my piggy bank. Male: I don’t want to think about that. Anyway, that’s why this week, what we’re doing is we’re talking about great, affordable valentines’ gifts for the new expecting mom that she is going to love. Male: Ma’am, I didn’t even help you to get lucky. Male: This show is brought to you by BabyBjorn, you know one of the cool things about BabyBjorn products is that they come in so many colors that you can always be seasonally appropriate, BabyBjorn. Male: Now as guys, when it comes to Valentine’s Day, we automatically think about the big ticket items like a romantic dinner or a dozen roses or some fancy chocolates. Male: Yes, but according to a decidedly nonscientific poll that we took here in DadLabs, there’s some local moms, they reported that what they really wanted for Valentine’s Day was something simpler, personal, even handmade. Female: You don’t have to buy into this whole you know, it has to be diamond necklace or earrings or a big—item. I mean, the roses would be fine but again, what’s that going to be? That’s like a $100.00 in Valentine’s Day. What I really, really want on Valentine’s Day is a well written heartfelt card. Male: A card, oh. Who would have like it? Female: That’s it! I don’t want a gift but energy. Female: The gift is the time. Female: And anybody can go and slap down the credit cards or run themselves into majority secrets, which is really for them to be perfectly honest. Male: Now today, we’re going to be talking about a couple of interesting and affordable tech gifts and of course this thing that I vaguely remember, it’s called a handwritten note. So on Valentine’s Day, you give your wife a package and she opens it up and it’s an iPod. It’s actually, it’s her iPod because she already has an iPod and you say, “No Honey, it’s what’s on there because you’ve made a special Valentine’s Day playlist with all your music line. The songs that put you guys in the way back machine, make you think about the times when you were dating. You know for me and my wife, it’s things like Indigo Girls, Nanci Griffith, Sara Hickman, REM that kind of thing, which dates us as being a little old. You know whatever takes you guys back. But you want to make since something new too. And maybe something that’s a little bit romantic when those kind of Souffle Crooners like Ray LaMontagne, works every time and maybe a little Amos Lee, Alexi Murdock, Tiff Demerit, any of those will be good in the mix. And you definitely want to set a mood but maybe you just want to go with the old standby’s from the Roxy music, work in college. Male: Of all the moms and experts we’ve talked to out there, the number one gift that women really want for Valentine’s is a handwritten note, which is great because it’s inexpensive. But we know there are some brothers out there that kind of have the left brain thing going on that would rather mortgage their kids and buy a diamond necklace rather than sit down and talk about their feelings on paper. Take a cue from David Letterman. Do a top 10 list, top 10 reasons you love your wife, top 10 reasons she’s the best mom ever, top 10 reasons you put up with your mother-in-law and it’s worth it. And if you want some style points, go out and get some of these valentine cards like you used to give in elementary school and some stickers and then do your top 10 on this. Male: Another great high tech low budget solution for Valentine’s Day, create a special slideshow just for the occasion. It’s really a great thing. Bust out your shoebox with all of your old photos going way back when you were first dating you know, get all those dating pictures, travel before you had kids, the wedding picture, birth—I got lots of those old pictures that I did to my wife for 14 years before we got married. Get them all, the birth pictures, those are great and then end up with the file one of the whole family together.
