Crohn's Disease and the Risk for Cancer Male: If we have the problem of getting the cancer down the road, is that possible without the inflammation? Male: Getting cancer there, yes. The risk increases with the severity of the disease and the number of years that you have it. The best thing you could do to prevent getting cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s or colitis would be to have the disease as well controlled as possible on medication. Male: Life expectancy to a person with Crohn’s disease, is it diminished? Male: I don’t think life expectancy is diminished to most cancer. Male: If you well controlled the situation and you take care of yourself for the good lifestyle you probably don’t want that be diminished. But if you don’t take yourself with any disease it could shortened your lifespan.
