Coping with Breast Cancer - Judy's Story At first, the experience of being diagnosed with breast cancer was very frightening. I was shocked because I really had no symptoms. I had gone in to have a pap test, and I came out with a tumor that happened to be malignant. From there, of course I had surgery. I went through chemotherapy radiation, and it worked because I am here today, 17 years later. One of the things I was fortunate to be able to do is my healthcare provider was taking part in some studies, and I qualified to be part of the study, and so I got state-of-the-art chemo. And it was a little stronger, it was a little rougher, but I helped pave the way for people today that are now using this as the regular chemo treatments for this particular type of breast cancer. Overall, I took the experience, and I have tried to help people along the way. I am a dental hygienist by profession, so I have a lot of patients who are breast cancer survivors or going through it. I always try to encourage them and help them and let them know that I have survived and give them encouragement along the way.
