Raena Morgan I'm wondering, what's the difference between naturopathy and homeopathy. Can you tell me Dr. Ferguson? Dr. Todd Ferguson: That is a good question because often when people ask what I do, I would say I'm a naturopathic doctor and they say Oh, you are a homeopath. That's great. And I say, no I'm a naturopathic doctor and they say Oh, how do you enjoy homeopathy? Raena Morgan: Really? Dr. Todd Ferguson: And it continues on and it's almost not worth correcting after a point. So it's kind of a chemical inside Yokohama naturopaths that people usually quote, but the difference is homeopathy is a distinct form of medicine and you could say naturopathic medicine is a much broader term. Under naturopathic medicine would include clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, physical medicine, counseling homeopathy, so there is a lot of different things that are part of the naturopathic doctors training that are part of the tools we have to pick from and one of them is the system of medicine of homeopathy. Other things that could potentially fall under that would be traditional Chinese medicine, aerobatic medicine depending on how much of persons got into that, but so you can see a homeopathy is potentially one part of what we do but it doesn't equate to what we do. Homeopathy is a distinct system of medicine that looks at assisting the body's natural healing mechanisms toward health and so you can see, it follows the philosophy of naturopathic medicine, which is the same. Now the difference is the tools used, homeopathy remedies are given that the aim is to natural remedy with symptom picture and the remedies are chosen based of that remedy given to a healthy person will cause the same sort of symptoms that sick person is expressing. The ideas that those symptoms that they are expressing are the bodies attempt to heal itself, it's the mechanism that's been expressed toward healing, and so if you match a remedy that does a similar sort of thing then it encourages that process. Now the remedies used in homeopathy are diluted medicines; they are assuring substances that has been diluted on to the point where those almost nothing of that medicine left in it, and then those are what are given to healthy people to see what happens and then they cause symptoms and those sort of symptoms that are matched to the present situation. So, some naturopathic doctors use homeopathies, some don't, some only do homeopathy, that really varies, but it's- Raena Morgan: Its only one system though that you use. Dr. Todd Ferguson: It's only one system. Correct. Raena Morgan: Well, thank you for clarifying that. Dr. Todd Ferguson: Yeah.
