Your mom had the right idea, when she served up steamy chicken soup, when you were sick. A University of Nebraska study found that chicken soup, helps lessen your body's inflammatory response to the cold virus, which can mean fewer symptoms like mucus and a stuffy nose. Researchers couldn't pin point the exact ingredients, that made chicken soup a potent cold fighter, but suggested that it could be a combination of the chicken, steamy broth and veggies working together. And it doesn't have to be home made to be effective. In the study, many supermarket brands were just as or even more soothing than an old family recipe. But after the plant, the important thing is to serve up your soup with some TOC. Researchers also suspect that there may be a placebo effect, associated with sipping chicken soup, when you are sick.
