Female Speaker: Many chronic pain sufferers turn to over-the-counter Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs like Advil, Motrin, Aleve, and aspirin to find some temporary relief. But their overuse could lead to some major health problems. These medications can irritate the stomach lining cause indigestion and more serious side effects such as gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers and kidney disease. People taking these anti-inflammatory medications in high doses, who are over the age of 60, who have had a previous ulcer are taking cortisone like drugs or are on blood-thinning medication are at a higher risk of developing complications. Patients in those categories should consult with their healthcare professionals for information about how to reduce the risk of these medication related problems.
