Choosing an Ovarian Cancer Specialist So if somebody has an abnormal blood test, a pelvic mass, something at a CAT scan, and ultrasound or exam that’s leading someone to say “You could have ovarian cancer,” you should see a gynecologic oncologist. Your surgery should not take place if there’s not a gynecologic oncologist available to do the right surgery if cancer is found. Absolutely. For me one of the hardest things about it is women ignore symptoms of their body that they think could be cancer-related because they think once they have ovarian cancer or any kind of cancer that there is nothing they can do. Absolutely there are things that we can do to cure it, get rid of it forever, put it in permission, make it go away for a long time, minimize the symptoms related to it. There are things that we can do. So no one should ever think they should ignore any symptom their body is giving them because it means something that’s bad enough that there’s nothing we can do.
