Dr. Estelle Nella: Pregnant women may experience any thing from low-back pain, mid-back pain, neck pain including headaches. Michele Farley: Two weeks after I felt I was pregnant my back started hurting to the point of feeling crippled and since coming here I feel like I can make it through the day. Dr. Estelle Nella: A curve back ache adjustment is hands on gentle technique. The patient will lie on her side or on her back and we will lay our hands on the patient and we start motion back in to the joints that have lost movement or have become misaligned due to some of the stresses involved in pregnancy. During pregnancy several metabolic, endocrinologic and physical changes occur. For one relaxin is released into the blood stream and relaxin serves to soften the ligaments and tissues. So one of the things that occurs is bones become shifted or loosen and misaligned. Well, as pregnancy progresses, the center of gravity shifts forward as weight is gained. So the actual spine starts to bend further. The lumbar spine actually increases its curve and that puts extra stress on the lumbar spinal joints and facets. Michele Farley: I don't know the magic of it but it takes away the headaches and it seems to put everything back where it belongs. I didn't have chiropractic care during my first. I had it during my second and this is my third. I'd say that it's definitely helpful. You don't have to live with the pain and there's something that can help you through it.
