Hi, everybody! I am Melanie Raposo and welcome to Mommy's Minute. Many of us have suffered the dreaded chickenpox as children, but if you are lucky enough to miss out on the chickenpox as a child, you may not be so lucky if you get the chickenpox when you are pregnant. If this is the case, within the first half of your pregnancy, you have a small 1% to 2% risk of your baby getting skin scarring, limb malformations, or eye problems, but if you get the chickenpox within five days of giving birth, your baby will have newborn chickenpox. This can be very serious, but fortunately it can be treated. If you think you have been infected with chickenpox, visit your practitioner right away.
