Audra Lowe: To walk the fashion runways always look so put together. So Better's Fitness Expert Andrea Metcalf took a page from their playbook, to show us how to get that catwalk confidence in today's Getting Fit. Andrea Metcalf: Fashion Week in New York is the biggest events of the year and anywhere over, you'll need good posture in order to pull it off and I have Dr. Emily Splichal who's developed a program called Catwalk Fitness for New York Sports Club. Tell us a little bit how you came up with this idea. Dr. Emily Splichal: Well being both a podiatrist and a fitness professional, so I need to help women build up postural strength, postural alignment and really understand that the foot is the foundation and having that strong feet and ankle when you walk, when you stand, will straighten up the body. Andrea Metcalf: Well we have the no show models with us today to demonstrate some of the exercises, but what can one expect in this 45 minute class? Dr. Emily Splichal: First 30 minutes is standing, so we're doing a Vertical Pilates workout and stand barefoot and then progressing to the last 10 minutes on the floor, we were doing core work, more Pilates based abdominal training and then the last 5 minutes is where we are going to put on the heels, practice out posture into a perfect walk. Andrea Metcalf: What does that really consist of when you're saying the perfect walk? Dr. Emily Splichal: The most important thing when doing the perfect walk starts with posture. So it's all about how we carry ourselves, how the head, the shoulders, abdominals, all the way down to the knees and feet and then how you step each step. So you want to be very aware of how each foot is landing, still maintaining that posture and then the final is focusing on the attitude. Andrea Metcalf: Now do you have to be a model to take this class? Dr. Emily Splichal: Absolutely not. No, I got men taking the class; I got women, teenagers, people of different ages. Andrea Metcalf: Well now that I have done a few exercises with you Dr. Emily, it's my turn to do the catwalk, so let's put on the music and start walking. Alright Emily, how am I doing? Dr. Emily Splichal: You are doing great; do not forget to keep that chin up, eyes are direct. Andrea Metcalf: Well remember, catwalk confidence, you can look great on the catwalk too; just join the New York Sports Club for class with Dr. Emily Splichal. I'm still working on it.
