Host: What are the categories for special education? Dr. Rene Hackey: The larger categories of special education are for a children with learning disabilities, with emotional disturbance, with mental retardation or with developmental delays or autism. There are also smaller categories of special education including hearing impairment, visual impairment, speech language impairment, orthopedic impairment, other health impaired and traumatic brain injury.
