Cardiac Stress Tests to Evaluate a Woman’s Heart There are a number of different types of tests that are available to evaluate the heart, and perhaps the most common is the treadmill stress test. Sometimes we couple with the treadmill exercise a form of imaging such as echocardiography or nuclear imaging. That’s referred to as a nuclear stress test. For patients who are unable to exercise there can be other options such as a chemical stress test, and various medications such as dobutamine, which stimulates the heart, can be used to again cause a chemical stress on the heart in this situation.
