Host: How much carbohydrates do you need to eat? Kathy Reily: The amount of carbohydrates is going to be different for everyone, but generally we say, if you have diabetes and you are trying to lose weight, for men, we generally recommend about 50-60 gms of carbohydrate per meal with about half of that amount at snacks in between. So the snack amount would be about 25 gms to 30 gms of carbohydrate for each snack, two to three snacks per day. For women who are trying to lose weight, we generally recommend about 30-40 gms of carbohydrate per meal; again, with about half of that for snacks in between. So the snack amount would be about 15-20 gms of carbohydrate per snack.
