Question: What is a Capsulotomy? Dr. Lawrence Shaw: Capsulotomy is a scoring of the capsular tissue that is contracted around a breast implant after augmentation. The capsule itself isn't removed, however, the scar tissue is incised in multiple areas, almost like if you are in a small tent and you cut around the periphery of that tent, across the top of the tent, and make that small tent into a large tent. That's what a capsulotomy will do, giving the implant more room to move around in the space.
