Audra Lowe: It's tough getting into that fitness routine Better's Fitness Expert Andrea Metcalf is here to help everybody out there who needs to bust their rut routine, and that's in today's Ask Andrea. Andrea Arden: So you are looking to bust out of that old exercise routine of treadmill or biking, running and walking. Well, I am with Andy Spear at Equinox club. Andy is a Personal Trainer. Give me some ideas of what we can do. Andy Spear: Great! Well, the first one is just the boxing. Andrea Arden: Alrighty. Andy Spear: There we go, excellent! Andrea Arden: We have got the gloves. Andy Spear: Perfect! So we are going to three basic strikes and then get rolling. Andrea Arden: Okay. Andy Spear: First one, we are going to do the Straight Cross or the Jab I should say. With your left-hand. Andrea Arden: Ready Andy Spear: Straight out, good. Andrea Arden: Back in. Andy Spear: Pull it nice and tight, back in, perfect, perfect, perfect. Next we are going to do the Cross. You are going to take your right hand, that's it. And I liked how you moved your hips too because everything is coming from the ground, through the hips, to the hands. Andrea Arden: That feels good. Andy Spear: Excellent! Keep that right arm out and now you are going to put the hips back again and give me your left, perfect! There we go. Andrea Arden: Now it's called the hook. Andy Spear: That's the hook, exactly. Andrea Arden: Because he has already taught me these. That's why we already know these. Jab Cross Hook, are we ready to try it? Andy Spear: Let's do it. Andrea Arden: Alright. One, two, three. Andy Spear: Good rhythm. That's it. Andrea Arden: One, two, three. Andy Spear: Excellent! Andrea Arden: One, two, three. Andy Spear: Very good. Nice job! Andrea Arden: Alright. What else you got for me? Andy Spear: Alright, let's strip the gloves off here, and we will get on the box for some plyometrics. Andrea Arden: First Andy, show me what we are doing. Andy Spear: We are going to do the lateral power step. Okay. We are going to start one foot on the box; we are going to drive off this top leg to power ourselves to the other side of the box. Use your arms to help. Up and down. Up and down. Nice and soft landing with the knees. Andrea Arden: What I love about plyometrics is the fact that you can get intensity. Andy Spear: That's it. And get those arms swinging. Yes, there we go. Andrea Arden: And the whole body involved. Andy Spear: Very good. Andrea Arden: But it feels really good. Andy Spear: Nice flat foot on the take off, perfect! Andrea Arden: Now you don't have to use a step. You can do this on any box. Just make sure it's a stable surface and at least four inches. Andy Spear: Fantastic. Andrea Arden: Alright. Next one. Andy Spear: Ready to go again. Andrea Arden: Yeah. Andy Spear: Alright. We are going to do a straddle jump on the box here. So bend knees, jump and land with your feet together on the box. Perfect, and then back down to the starting position. Andrea Arden: And up. Andy Spear: Very good. That's it. Andrea Arden: And this is great as it works my inner thighs and my backside. Two of those bottom lines that really want to work on through out the winter. Andy Spear: Excellent. Andrea Arden: And then we would do what 30 seconds to a minute you think? Andy Spear: Yeah, I'd say stick with 30 seconds to start, and work your way up to a minute. Andrea Arden: I love it. Alright. You have got more advanced jump for me? Andy Spear: Great! Yeah, we are going to do a front box jump. Okay. Start here. Andrea Arden: Show me. Andy Spear: Same idea as the straddle, start up on the top and land. Okay. Andrea Arden: Now the key to this movement is really control. You want to land softly, quietly and still get the power. Andy Spear: Make sure our whole foot is landing on the box. That's it. Andrea Arden: And the whole foot not only landing on the box, but we also want to make sure that we are clearing the box. Andy Spear: Yeah. Andrea Arden: Excellent! We
