Host: There is some concern if you begin breast feed in supplements with conventional formulas, there is a problem. Some use the term nipple preference and nipple confusion. What is that all about? Myrtle Hodge: It seems as one, for some babies once you introduce different methods of feeding, they do not want to change from that, and they prefer for example, the teeth of the bottle with gravitational flow is easier. The baby doesn't have to work as hard. If the baby is nursing, there is work involved, and that's beneficial for the baby, because they're excising. Once your use your body, it's beneficial, if you don't use it, you loose it, so the jaws get very nice and the jaws are stronger. Teeth alignment is great for babies who are breast fed rather than babies who may be artificially fed. Host: And also it's harder to take it from the breast and easier to take it from a bottle. Some babies may not want to take the breast. Myrtle Hodge: And we have seen situations like that, and that can be very devastating. It's time consuming, you need a lot of patience, and then we need to train that baby to learn to suck properly on the mother's breast.
