My name is Mary Ann Gairhart and I’m a 12 year survivor. I found my lump, my self and then have a mammogram and it was confirmed but I have breast cancer. I was very fortunate, I am a military wife so I had all my treatment done at Walter Reed and I went through chemo therapy and radiation and the only twist to my story is that there was no one in my family up to that time that had breast cancer and I was diagnosed in February and in December of that same year and my mother at 85 years old found a lump and had breast cancer and she survived with good treatment and so and I also am part of the survivor committee for Susan Komen and it is a great committee to do, try and inspire others to join the race.
