Breast Cancer Awareness Dr. Travis Ork: It's October and as you know it's Breast Cancer Awareness month. Every woman knows the importance of breast exams, but not every woman is doing them. But we found a new way to make these dreaded breast exam a little not scary, unless you say it's also a little more artsy, right? Dr. Lisa Masterson: It's very much more artsy and it may not be for everyone and what is called the Booby Booth. And it may not be fore everyone, but it's a virtual exhibit for women to compare and celebrate their breast, and it's from Rethink Breast Cancer. And basically, what women as they go into this Booby Booth and they take photos of their breasts, and they can decide whether or not they want to put it on the Booby Wall, so that they can share and celebrate this with other women. But what I love, absolute love is their motto, which is TLC, which is Touch, Look, and Check. Because a lot of women, and even though they think about touching their breast, and really it's all about getting to know your breast what's normal for you, but you forget to look at your breast, that’s extremely important, whether one has gotten larger, whether the skin is puckering or dimpling, whether you have any lesions that have come up. So it's really important to look as well as feel an hen check with your doctor. Dr. Drew Ordon: You I was a little surprised to hear you say Lisa, the most women do not exam their own breast. Dr. Lisa Masterson: Well, because they're afraid to find something. And you have to take charge to that fear and really think of it as getting to know you body. Dr. Drew Ordon: I mean that’s such a big point, you catch it early, this is a treatable disease and I think another issue here, women are worried about losing their breasts. And I'm here to say that reconstruction with breast is better than it's ever been. So there's no excuse if you fin something, make sure you follow up. Dr. Lisa Masterson: You're right, early detection is key for breast cancer. Dr. Travis Ork: And we’ve talked before on the show on how to perform a self breast exam. But for refresher course, go to our website TheDoctorsTV.com. And we also have a handy device that can help women remember when you do the breast exam? Dr. Lisa Masterson: We do, the cue, and I'm excited about this, again, anything to help women to do their breast exam, because they're not doing it, basically and the best time to do your breast exam is right after your period. So the cue has a taken a cue from that. And it's cuing women every month to do their breast exam and what it does is you put in your last menstrual period, how frequently they come, and this tells you when you to do your breast exam, it goes in the shower, it lives in the shower and it tells you when you do your breast exam. And also it can tell you when to go for your appointment. So this is fantastic. So tell a friend about Booby Wall and the cue.
