Raena Morgan: Hi, I’m Raena Morgan with iHealthTube. I’m visiting with Dr. Parris Kidd. He is the author of PS: Nature’s Brain Booster. It’s an excellent and exciting book. We’ve been talking in other segments about memory decline—PS and memory decline. But there are—for younger people too, like in particular Attention Deficit Disorder. Could you talk a little bit about that and any studies that have been done? Dr. Parris Kidd: Yes, Raena. You know, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is a major, major problem in this society and, in fact, in all Western societies. It can affect up to 10% of the population. Raena Morgan: 10%, that’s a lot. Dr. Parris Kidd: And then there are the related dyslexias and dysgraphias, and so difficulties with brain processing that affect up to 15% of the population. And, for this entire population we find that Phosphatidyl Serine—PS, especially when used in conjunction with the Omega 3s—DHA and EPA, can make a huge difference to the kid’s behavior and to their potential to learn in school. It seems that there’s some miss-wiring, some bad connections in the brain, and these connections can be reorganized with the use of nutrients, with the judicious use of PS and Omega 3s, the B vitamins and essential minerals. And, there are other things that are required as well, such as, to really be careful about not exposing the child to toxins in the home or in the school environment, and to also to watch the child’s food—to generally take a total health approach lifestyle. Raena Morgan: They’re probably kind of sensitive, right? Dr. Parris Kidd: Some of these children are chemically sensitive. Many of them have food intolerances. So, I’ve actually been involved in 3 clinical trials. Raena Morgan: You have? Okay. Dr. Parris Kidd: With PS for children who had oppositional problems, Attention Deficit or other types of behavioral and learning problems. And, the trials were done with Dr. Richard Kunin in San Francisco and with Dr. Carol Ann Ryser in Kansas City. And, we found that by using a pretty good amount of PS, at least 200 mg a day, we were able to substantially improve these kids; just about every child improved. A few of the kids, if they would forget to take the PS, within a few days would begin to slip back into the old behavioral patterns. And then, when they would get the PS restored into their program they would immediately pick up again. And, this was putting PS on top of all the other vitamins and supplements, and even on top of Ritalin; it even carried the performance beyond Ritalin, and beyond what the other nutrients could do. So, we do believe that PS has a unique effect to help these kids to rebuild whatever circuits are not so well formed. Raena Morgan: So, you’re saying that this in addition to a pharmaceutical, that they took the PS to help that too. Dr. Parris Kidd: That’s right. And, actually over the course of time the increasement program can replace the pharmaceutical. Ritalin has number of very bad, adverse effects and it’s advisable to get the child onto a really good vitamin supplement and detoxification program. Keep them away from toxins; watch their foods very carefully, and after a while it’s possible to get rid of the pharmaceuticals. Raena Morgan: That’s good news. That’s very good news. Well, thank you for visiting with us about that topic Dr. Kidd. Dr. Parris Kidd: You’re very welcome, Raena.
