Daddy Clay: Hey, there welcome back to the lab I am Daddy Clay. Daddy Brad: And I am Daddy Brad. If there is one thing that really just gets my go is this media contacted health scare stories that are designed just to get hands off freak out. You want talk about Daddy Clay. Daddy Clay: Yes, yes. Daddy Clay: This bisphenol A. It is in plastic and we need to talk about it. So, this episode is all about this Bisphenol A and you and your kids. Now, for those of you who do not read emails from your panic friends or you do not visit sites like Daddy Types or bisphenol A You maybe wondering what exactly is bisphenol A or BPA for that we go to Daddy Troy in the science corner. Daddy Troy: Bisphenol A is s high production volume chemical, using a production of polycarbonate plastics, epoxy recants and flamer tarts. The Polycarbonate plastics are used in food and drink packaging particularly number seven plastics. The recent is used is a lacquer on metal products which is food cans, bottles tops and water supply pipes. So, this stuff is every where. Daddy Brad: Dude, have you read this? Researchers suspect that this Bisphenol A maybe acting it is kind disruptor, prenatal or early exposure to this substances causes the production of additional puss cells and predisposes the animal to obesity for life. So, without going nuts without being to alarmist that we know that this BPA, this bisphenol A, is in a lot of things that we use in the house it is been shown to cause obesity in mice and obesity in children on the rise in this country. Daddy Brad: So, it make sense to limit exposure to a young kid and our pregnant wives but how we do that? Daddy Clay: When you are in the grocery store avoid buying foods that are package in plastic one that in a little number seven recycle sign that is the material it got the highest BPA content it is tough maybe surprise how much food even baby food is package a number seven. And when at home in the kids avoid this little babies as much as you can avoid plastics utensils and plastics plates. Daddy Brad: Shop for BPA free products a lot of them will have this logo or they are just safer plastic free from Bisphenol A that you best bet. Daddy Clay; You do not want to heat anything up in the microwave using the plastic bowl avoid using with really hot foods hot liquids you do not want to do that and when this things start to worn and scratch up like this one tossed it out you do not want to consider washing this hand washing instead of putting them in the washing machine where they can get worn and that releases more of the chemical. Daddy Brad: And when it come to really any kind of food container or bottle try to go stainless steel or glass or porcelain that is always the best bet.
