Best Ways to Cure a Hangover Dr. Travis Stork: We’re back with Jillian Michaels with The Biggest Loser who’s sharing her top secrets to transforming your body. Now Jillian has been on the show a few times on more than one occasion well she likes to indulge. Jillian Michaels: If I'm not in enough trouble for all the F-bones on primetime television and now you need to get drunk on day time TV. I mean this is great, my mother is going to have a heart attack. Dr. Travis Stork: So in honor of Jillian we’re going to talk about the best fruit to help relieve a hang over. Jillian Michaels: Thanks Travis. Dr. Travis Stork: And we’re just having fun. I think what's important for everyone at home to know is that there is some things that you should do and some things that you shouldn’t do because the reality is when you drink too much alcohol, you get toxic buildup of something called acetaldehyde and there’s unfortunately no real cure for that other than time but one thing you don’t want to do, I’ve got a little present for you. Jillian Michaels: Okay. Dr. Travis Stork: Has anyone ever heard of hair of the dog. Dr. Andrew Ordon: Of course. Dr. Jim Sears: Oh, yeah. Dr. Travis Stork: So this is a little Bloody Mary. Dr. Lisa Masterson: I love Bloody Mary. Dr. Travis Stork: So just a zip. We still have the whole show to get through. Dr. Andrew Ordon: Who told you -- Dr. Jim Sears: I'm just going to -- Dr. Lisa Masterson: That -- Dr. Andrew Ordon: Who told you I was hangover. Dr. Jim Sears: That is really good. Cheers, nice awesome. Dr. Lisa Masterson: Oh, that’s actually good. Dr. Travis Stork: Thank you, it’s fantastic. Jillian Michaels: I do love coming here I’m not going to lie. Dr. Travis Stork: Here is the reality for those of you watching at home and in the audience. Hair of the dog, bad idea all it’s going to do is prolong how drunk you are, prolong your hangover because what you need to do is get rid of all those toxic metabolites and that just takes time but here’s what’s cool. There have been some studies out there that show certain foods that you eat may increase you bodies ability to metabolized the alcohol and get it out of your system. So what we have here is this is what's called a just what the doctor ordered Bloody Mary. And this is -- alcohol, so guys here’s why. Egg yolks have cystine in it which is thought to help break down the acetaldehyde byproduct. And then asparagus, believe it or not also in a Korean study was shown to maybe enhance your body’s ability to break down the toxins. So you guys want to try this? Dr. Jim Sears: Well another reason this is good is that alcohol is a diuretic, it forces water out of your body and with that goes potassium so the tomato juice in this is actually a very rich source of potassium it helps replenish the cells and the organs. Dr. Andrew Ordon: That’s such a great importance that you aren’t dehydrated. Dr. Jim Sears: Body -- you know the banana can do the same thing. Dr. Travis Stork: So the only -- really the only cure for hangover is to prevent in the first place. Couple of pointers, drink in moderation. That’s the most important thing but the other thing is if you are out of the party alternate an alcoholic beverage with a glass of water that will keep you hydrated, that will keep you feeling better the next day and God forbid do not drive after you’ve had alcohol. That’s the last message here. Dr. Andrew Ordon: Send in those pickled eggs for me. Jillian Michaels: Oh yeah no worries.
