Melanie Raposo: Hi! Everybody I am Melanie Raposo and welcome to the Pregnancy Show today Andrea Page personal trainer and founder of Fit Mom Canada talks about the importance of managing your weight during pregnancy and how exercise can help you maintain a health pregnancy weight. Andrea Page: Well I can tell there are the few benefits of exercise during pregnancy of course weight management if one of them. I say that with caution because especially when we are looking at all the Hollywood moms out there I certainly don't want to promote unhealthy weight gains during pregnancy in either extreme. Excessive weight gain is one of things that can lead to hypertension and gestational diabetes which we talked about before whereas of course very little or low weight gains specially in a women who is under weight to begin with can also lead complications where the baby may not getting enough and what we will see is intrauterine growth retardation potentially. So we want to look at healthy weight gains. Sadly in North America we know that most of us have sedentary life styles also because of missed around exercise in pregnancy people dump routines down too much even if they were active before, so we are seeing leaning towards excessive weight gains I suppose to the lower weight gains. But exercise can help manage it but you have also got a have a healthy diet and make sure everything in moderation.
