Hey! This is Dr. Ann and I hope you are listening because I want to set you straight when it comes to avocadoes. I consider avocadoes one of the most under appreciated and misunderstood superstar foods. I am always amazed at the number of people that think they are unhealthy, are fattening. I’ll give you a million bucks if you can find me someone that got fat eating avocadoes but the delicious reality is they are true of the charts wonder food when it comes to your health. You say, “Well, what’s so good about avocadoes?” Well, where do I begin? Avocadoes first of all are filled with the make me healthier monounsaturated fats. These are fats that will make you healthier tomorrow than you are today if you indulge in them. How do they do it? What makes them really special is what they do to your cardiovascular system. They can lower your bad cholesterol, raise your good cholesterol. They can help lower your blood pressure. They can make your insulin work better, that translates into a healthier metabolism and a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes. They are filled with very important nutrients; an excellent source of vitamin E and B vitamins. They have a lot of fiber. They are one of the very best sources of natures of cholesterol lowering drug, something called phytosterols and they are exploding with antioxidants. Avocadoes make the top 20 list of the most potent antioxidant fruits and vegetables and you say, “Well how do I eat these avocadoes?” It’s really, really easy because you know what? They are so delicious. It’s always easy to eat things that are really delicious. So how do I do it? I love them as a side dish, just simply dice, hit with a little bit of salt and lemon, absolutely wonderful. You can throw them into salads. You can use avocadoes as truly healthy butter. You can spread it on toast, you can use it in place of mayonnaise to moisten your sandwiches or you know what you can just go guacamole, right?
