EmpowHer Asks: Are lung transplants a common procedure? Dr. Ross Bremner: Well lung transplant is still a pretty uncommon transplant to be done and transplants are a whole are an uncommon procedure all in all. They usually are offered as the last resort in terms of any disease process. For example, you can only offer a heart transplant in patients who cannot have any mediations or surgical procedures to make their current heart any better. And the same applies to lung transplants. So it is still an unusual procedure and an example a hospital that does high volume of heart transplants, is somewhere in the region of 30 to 40 transplants a year.
