We are working at the Population Council on developing vaginal gels and also vaginal rings that the women could wear and apply a product that would prevent the transmission of the AIDS virus, the HIV virus, through the vaginal cells. Some of these methods are called microbicides, and they are gel formulation. They are also associated with other antiviral agents which kill the virus before it gets through the vaginal cells. It’s very early stage of development, but it’s a very important area of the Population Council Research.
