On behalf of TVLesson.com, I am Dr. Justin Newman, Doctor of Oriental Medicine with TheBanyanHolistic.com. In this clip, I’m going to show you some of the equipment that we use in acupuncture. The first is this clean field. It’s important to maintain a clean environment when we’re performing acupuncture. We clean our hands, we clean the patient very carefully before we do any kind of acupuncture work. The needles themselves are kept in this container here. That way, the tools don’t make the patient uncomfortable. There are two parts that are very important to see. The first is a tube. This helps guide the needles to the places we’re working with. The needle is very, very thin and tiny. It’s very wiry and in fact the point is microscopic so the patient won’t feel the needle as it’s being inserted. Sometimes, the acupuncture is inserted with the tube, sometimes without the use of the tube, but in any of that, comfort is optimized. Some other equipment that we use here is Maxa. Maxa is a Chinese herb that is used either on the needle or on the pathway itself near the needle to warm up the area of the body. It’s very important sometimes to increase the energy that’s available to the system by warming up the needles. Also, the acupuncture needles can be worked with using electric stem. This is a battery operated machine that is connected directly to the needles so that a very fine current can be passed from one to the other to relieve tension that may be accumulating in the muscle around the acupuncture point or in the pathway or muscle group that it’s being worked with. Some other equipment that is used is this cotton ball. It’s very important to keep cotton nearby in case in the unlikely event that there is bleeding, we can contain that right away. Bruising or injuries are almost unheard of when it comes to acupuncture. It’s a very safe technique that even children and pregnant women can benefit from. On behalf of TVLesson.com, this is Dr. Justin Newman. Thank you for watching.
