Raena Morgan: We’ve talked about dairy being a reactive food for many people. What are some alternatives, in terms of our diet and over consuming these kind of allergic foods? Dr. Christopher Lepisto: Right. Well, the first option we have is actually trying to get dairy more in its original form. In other words, not pasteurized, not homogenized. And that means of a raw milk form. Now, you can get raw milk cheeses right now, available at the health food stores or some supermarkets. You cannot get raw milk. And that’s an issue with the FDA. However, if you make raw milk on your own farm or get it from your friends, you can consume it. Raena Morgan: Alright. Dr. Christopher Lepisto: There is a big movement now, in my profession of naturopaths, of working more towards the raw form. Why? Because of the enzymes that are maintained, the beneficial bacteria and you’re basically looking at a live product that’s come from the cow, that hasn’t yet been pasteurized. Quite often, those have incredible healing benefits to the digestive tract, for the immune system. Many people are familiar with colostrum, which is from cows as— Raena Morgan: Right. Dr. Christopher Lepisto: An incredible immune system booster. So that’s the first option— is trying to go more towards a raw form. It needs to be in a good, organic setting. You still have to make sure there isn’t pathogenic bacteria. If you put a bunch of cows together in a small space, and low and behold, you’re going to have to use antibiotics. So, it’s the way we care for the cows that are important—even with organic. Raena Morgan: So there are some alternatives to consuming dairy. Dr. Christopher Lepisto: Some alternatives to dairy that a lot of people don’t necessarily know about, would be going towards some of—let’s take milk, for example. Some of the nut milks that are available—almond milk, oat milk, rice milk—are very palatable and, actually, many people prefer them over milk. I don’t actually drink milk. Well, I don’t have it in my house. I may have it on the rare occasion when I’m out; but those are some of the places to start. Now soy is another one that’s very creamy— Raena Morgan: Right. Dr. Christopher Lepisto: But I can see you turn your head a little bit on this already, it is also another one of those very reactive foods. Raena Morgan: Okay. Thank you very much.
