Martica Heaner: Hi! I am Martica Heaner exercise physiologist and certified personal trainer. This fun slip and slide workout is guaranteed to be different than anything you have done before. It's a circuit routine using a towel sliding along the floor to create an element of instability that really targets your core, thighs and butt. Let's get started. This towel exercise is the alternating leg extension, start by sitting with your knees backed then place each heel on top of a towel, lie back with your hand inside your side and raise your hips two to three inch above the floor, engage your core muscles, your abs and butt and then extend one leg all the way out until its straight keeping your hips raised pull it back in. then alternate with the other, extend it till it straight and pull it back in. To make this easier get rid of the towel, so one foot is stable, raise your hips two to three inches above the floor and this time reduce the range of motion. So just push out about 12 inches and pull back in keeping the hips raised and really thinking about engaging your core muscles, as you extend that leg and pull it in. Now if you want an extra challenge go ahead and put both feet back on the towels, hands by your side, raise you hip a couple of inches off the floor and this time simultaneously push both heels out as you hip stays raised till they almost straight and then pull your legs back in. And again extend keeping the abs and butt muscles and back tight and pull back in. You will want to do 8 to 12 reps on each leg and for even better results follow this move with a three minute cardio boost.
